One of the loves of our lives is our dear friend Lara.
She was front and centre the first day we sold at the Bondi markets, even turning up early to help us put together our complicated candy striped gazebo.
Ever since that day she has been a constant source of inspiration and support.
After touring the world many times playing with many musicians she is about to strike out on her own as "El May". A mixture of Feist support and solo shows will take place in Sydney and Melbourne over the next couple of weeks, so you have to check her out!...NOW!
First stop: Her Myspace page.
Miss Joanna Newsom came to visit us at Lover HQ last week.
She picked out her favourite pieces, and then sat down with us to have a chat. It was the only interview she granted while in Australia, and lots of laughs and musical conversation were had. You can listen to it all in our "podcast" section.
Her spellbinding performance at the Opera House the following night was amazing. She captivated each audience member (including Bjork!) with her originality, talent and inspiration. It was one of those magic moments you will always think about for years to come.
So by now you should know that Chan Marshall aka "Cat Power" is touring Australia in March.
She is very close to the heart of Lover, as she was the muse and the inspiration behind the labels beginnings. But what makes this tour even more of a triple whammy, is who she has in her backing band "The Dirty Delta Blues".
First off Jim White on drums. He plays with the "Dirty Three". This bands mind bending beauty has to be seen to be believed. No Youtube clip can do it justice. They have a new doco out on DVD and even if you don’t know anything about them, if you have a heart, a brain and a love of true music you will enjoy this!
Here's a track they wrote with Cat Power.
And then there's Mr Judah Bauer on guitar! this street walkin' telecaster cat is a member of the "Blues Explosion" which pretty much gave birth to bands like The White Stripes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Gossip. Years ago they performed on the ABC TV show "Recovery", and literally pulled the place apart. This clip is a true affirmation of integrity, what rock AND roll is about, and why we need to get up out of our seats for once, and shake a tail feather.
