There is a mighty strong chance that you’ve come into contact with something or someone that has been influenced by Aaron Rose. He has been a pivotal figure in the contemporary art and street culture scene for over 10 years.
Blessed with an intuition for hand picking seminal new artists across various disciplines. His “Alleged" gallery in New York which was open from 1992 – 2002, gave a first shot platform to outsider artists such as Mark Gonzales, Terry Richardson, Harmony Korine, Mike Mills, Susan Cianciolo and Ed Templeton. Born out of skate, punk rock and hip hop culture, the gallery illustrated that you didn’t have to view art in a sterile elitist environment, and more importantly how disconnected and lagging contemporary art had become.
Recently Rose curated and organised the very successful “Beautiful Losers” exhibition which is a compilation of many of the artists that graced the walls of his gallery. It has travelled around various parts of the globe and a documentary film has now been made about the exhibition, its artists and their themes. It features some of Lover’s favourite comtemporary artists. And helps to prove that you can work outside of the establishment, on you own terms and still find a willing audience. Be on the look out!

Erika from Au Revoir Simone, recently emailed us some pics of the band wearing their Lover tour outfits. And they look beautiful!... (if we do say so ourselves). To witness their brand of "triple keyboard action", check out their tunes and tour dates at the Au Revoir Simone Myspace page.

There is a question we constantly ask in Loverland and it’s "Can Jack White do no wrong?". His band The White Stripes is one of the most original and fiercly respected bands of the last decade while at the same time distancing themselves from the business, marketing and politics of the music industry.

Example: Up until 7 days ago virtually no one knew that his other band The Raconteurs where about to release a new full length album titled "Consoler of the Lonely". Recorded in February this year in Jack Whites "Third Man" studios and released on March 25th. It has come as a complete surprise. No hype, no pre-release press, No listening parties, no "countdown coming soon" advertisments. In the bands press release they talk about everyone being able to listen to the album for the first time, at the same time, critics, friends, fans, radio stations etc etc.
We even checked with our local record store yesterday and they looked dumb founded when asked about the album. A copy is now in our hands and it sounds FAN. TAS. TIQUE! (view video below!)
Little known fact: When the Australian band "The Raconteurs" refused to give up their name for the amount they were offered, and instead tried to extract a higher price once they found out it was Jack White that wanted it. Jack gave his lawyers a simple 2 word reply to pass on to the Aussie band..."Lick It."
